The four-reel was a vehicle for Edith Taliaferro, here cast as a social-climbing store clerk. Hoping to land a rich husband, Taliaferro poses as a wealthy heiress and heads to a "tony" summer resort. Here she falls in love with a young man who, like her, is a store clerk pretending to be a millionaire. By the time they discover their mutual deception, hero and heroine have fallen in love. But a happy ending is not so easily reached: A phony count, still convinced that Taliaferro is as rich as she claims to be, kidnaps the girl and holds her for ransom, leading to a thrilling motorboat-chase finale. The location photography in was the film's most appealing asset, notably a beautifully rendered "sunset" sequence
